> Humpy World (Bucklige Welt)
> Description
The region "Bucklige Welt" ("Humpy World") is situated
in the south-east of Lower Austria. The name "Bucklige Welt" describes
the landscape which is formed by the rock. Numberless rounded hilltops,
mostly based on gneiss, rise above the hilly country consisting of mica
schist. The widely developed zone between Aspang and Kirchschlag joins
the Rosaliengebirge to the north.
This partly wooded, partly also densely populated hilly country reaches
altitudes of nearly 900 m. above sea level, the highest elevations of
the "Bucklige Welt" are the Hutwisch at Hochneukirchen (896 m.),
the Stickelberg (881 m.) and the Rosalienkapelle (748 m.).
Many built-up areas and detached farms can be found on the rounded hilltops
and plateaus (e.g. Hochwolkersdorf, Wiesmath, Lichtenegg, Hochneukirchen)
or in wide valleys and basins (e.g. Kirchschlag in the valley of the Zoebernbach,
Krumbach in the basin of Krumbach), because the narrow valleys with their
wooded slopes were less suitable for settlements of agriculture.
